After studying the eyewear industry for months, we realised that most of the brands we knew, optical chains and factories, were all owned by the same company. An Italian company that controls more than 70% of the eyewear industry.
It also became clear to us that there was a huge mismatch between the cost price of the glasses and the price they were sold for to the consumer. We wanted to change that and as a result MESSYWEEKEND was born.

From its humble beginnings in a loft on Købmagergade in Copenhagen, MESSYWEEKEND™ has grown significantly.
Driven by a dream to challenge the industry's biggest players, we've worked hard to establish ourselves on a global scale.
Today, MESSYWEEKEND™ is present in over 35 markets worldwide. From Denmark to Vietnam, Paris to New York, from fashion stores to online shops. Our products are sold in more than 1,000 retailers, including some of the most iconic stores you can find: Selfridges, Harvey Nichols, Illum, Magasin du Nord, Intersport and more.
We operate our own online stores in six countries in local languages and our websites have over 19 million visitors every year. Additionally, we run two physical stores - one in Denmark and one in Georgia - with more openings to come. And we’re just getting started.
Our ambition is to become the world’s leading affordable luxury eyewear brand. We aim to be the Ray-Ban of our generation - a brand cherished not only by us, but also by our grandchildren.
With great ambitions come great responsibilities. We've always been aware that we can't take without giving.
From day one, we've been committed to giving back through our Clean Oceans program - even during the many years we weren’t earning a penny.
Since 2018, every purchase of a MESSYWEEKEND™ product, whether through a retailer or directly from us, has contributed to removing plastic from the world's oceans.
Today, this effort is carried out through an NGO that employs local workers to help clean up plastic from nature. So far, our community has helped remove over 260 tonnes of plastic, and that number continues to grow.
This is without a doubt one of our proudest achievements.
Our journey has been long and challenging. It's been expensive (just ask our investors) and filled with blood, sweat and tears.
It takes time to build a global eyewear brand in a traditional industry dominated by many capital-heavy players.
